Extra Data for Mini-Kit NYC HM-1
New York Central offset side hopper parts
The NYC installed 2,050 of these cars from 1924 to 1927. They were originally assigned to CCC&StL, Michigan Central, NYC, and Peoria & Eastern. The New York Central reoganized their fleet in the mid-1930s and began renumbering all of these cars starting in 1936.
This HO scale mini kit of resin parts and decals can be used to convert an Accurail or Tichy HO scale USRA hopper model to follow a New York Central prototype. All other small parts, styrene pieces, and couplers are supplied by the modeler. The resin castings can be applied to an Accurail or Tichy USRA hopper car after the side stakes are removed and the area sanded smooth.
Step 1
This example uses a Tichy USRA hopper kit. Similar stpes can be applied to an Accurail kit, or other HO cale USRA hopper car. Support the interior area before removing material from the car sides.
Remove side stakes and sand area smooth.
Step 2
Sand the back of the resin casting and clean off any sanding dust from the casting and the car side. Scotch ATG adhesive transfer tape 976 was used to attach the resin casting to the car side.
This is a two-sided adhesive tape that has many hobby project applications.
The amount of detailing on these models is up to the modeler. Link to General Arrangement drawings and prototype photos are provided below to guide your work.
Resin Car Works would like to thank the following rail historians and modelers for their high quality work. Without their efforts, these kits would not have been produced.
